All electrical equipment containing data
bearing media such as computers, hard drives, floppy drives or
CDs etc. is collected and received in our warehouse and placed
securely in a CCTV monitored and secure store. Only our trained
and trusted staff handle your equipment. The equipment is then
brought to our lab when it has to be tested, data wiped and refurbished.
This is done within 48 hours of receipt of equipment through our
doors. This ensures that your assets and data are secure and data
is wiped in accordance with the strictest rules.
BRES is fully committed to the Data Protection
Act and as such has in place a policy catering for data protection
principles. For hard drives, we use algorithms devised by experts
that ensure that the data is erased, using the latest key wiping
standards:
HMG CESG Infosec 5
Developed by CESG who are the information assurance arm of GCHQ.
This is regarded as the top current UK standard for data cleansing.
DoD 5220.22-M
Designed by the US Department of Defence consisting of a 3 or
7 pass wipe algorithm. A pass is when the hard drive is totally
overwritten once with data.
Any hard drives or data bearing media that cannot
be securely data wiped will be physically destroyed using a
shredding machine. If required by the client and is mutually
agreed, data bearing media can also be physically destroyed.
